When a component made up of atoms that commonly drop electrons (a steel) reacts with a component made up of atoms that easily attain electrons (a nonmetal), a transfer of electrons commonly occurs, generating ions. The compound formed by this transfer is stabilized from the electrostatic points of interest (ionic bonds) between the ions of opposite
